Backed by book giant Borders, the Elonex feels a bit sturdier in your hands than the other sleeker styles. The menu features thumbnail pictures of the ebooks, replicating a real library - a nice touch - and to upload e-books, simply connect it to your computer with a USB cable, download the books then 'drag and drop' from your computer desktop onto the device icon.

You can choose from eight sizes of clear and crisp eInk text, and to turn the pages, you simply press the large main button on the front. It's faster than the others on test, weighs only 180g and though a bit utilitarian in design, this is the workhorse of the e-books and can store up to 500 novels. 9/10
