Heath Ledger dead - what the?!

Heath Ledger has just been found dead in his apartment, what the hell is going on?!?!? What a talent, what a waste.

There is, as yet no confirmation on what actually happened. That should come over the next couple of days, but there is already speculation about it being suicide from drug overdose and reasons range from not being able to cope with the split from the mother of his child to not being able to cope with the Hollywood lifestyle.

WNBC writes:

NEW YORK -- Oscar-nominated actor Heath Ledger was found dead Tuesday at a downtown Manhattan residence in what might be a drug-related death, police said.

Ledger was found by his housekeeper, who was trying to let him know that a masseuse had arrived for an appointment, police said. The housekeeper found him dead at 3:26 p.m. with a bottle of pills next to the body, according to police.

The morning shows on Australian radio were rife with the news while reporters in the UK were woken to get the news out. Heath had various roles in films such as 10 Things I Hate about You, Ned Kelly and Casanova but his biggest hit (which also caused the biggest controversy) was Brokeback Mountain for which he got an Oscar nomination. His dad in Australia got abuse from narrow minded people shouting about Heath being a fagg*t and many of the cinemas in Australia refused to screen it.

Thinking back to some of the radio and tv interviews Heath had done, he always did appear to be someone who took everything that happened in his life sincerely. When radio DJs in his home country like Kyle and Jacky O tried to add a light hearted nature to the interviews Heath refused to go to that level. Kyle's jokes did not seem to sit well with him. Heath took 9 months off to take care of Michelle Williams while she was pregnant. When Kyle jokingly said that must have been a real pain in the ass, instead of laughing he replied in a serious tone by saying that no it was a privilege and he would do it again. Merrick and Rosso summed it up well on their Nova 969 morning show in Sydney when they said that he was more of an artist that a Hollywood actor. They said that the more he came back home the less comfortable he felt in his own country, each time he came back more and more people knew who he was and had an opinion about him

It is such a shame to see his life end at 28, his star was definitely on the rise but maybe that is something that he didn't want. He had just finished filming the new batman film (The Dark Night) in which he plays the lead role as the Joker and he had the potential  to become a bigger Australian star than Nicole Kidman. While people like Paris Hilton get famous for doing nothing  and crave for the limelight it is a pity when someone who deserves the attention for their talent does not actually want it.

The situation is reminiscent of the Kurt Cobain, another extremely talented person who loved what he done but hated the fame and press attention that came with it.

Thoughts immediately go to his 2 year daughter who will have to go through life without her father and his parents who have to deal with the fact that they have outlived their son.

Heath Ledger rest in peace.

Ah crap, one of the few

Ah crap, one of the few actors I could look at and think, hey he's actually good and didn't have the huge ego that fame can bring. The world is a little less bright without him in it.

What a waste...Already what

What a waste...Already what we've seen of The Dark Knight is amazing. A real loss for those of us who love movies and the people who make them. An even bigger loss to those who knew him.
